Aziza and Kobir travelled to Maldives and stayed at Meeru Island Resort & Spa. Here's what they had to say:
When we decided we wanted to go on holiday before having our 5th baby, we knew we wanted somewhere quiet to enjoy the weather, relax, and eat some great food. I’d never really thought about going to the Maldives before – I wasn’t sure about being stuck on just one island – but after talking to the Tropical Sky team about our budget and what we were after, the Maldives seemed ideal and met our needs perfectly.
Once there, we quickly saw why so many of our friends had the Maldives on their wish list – it was amazing to be on a paradise island with a backdrop you could never get bored of, with palm trees full of coconuts, white sandy beaches, and crystal clear warm waters. The resort itself, the Meeru Resort & Spa, was lovely, and the staff were amazing and so attentive. At 26 weeks pregnant I felt so well looked after, and we were never left disappointed by the manner and the attitude of the staff. Gassim, our restaurant waiter, stood out to us as he made sure we were comfortable every time we visited – from remembering our favourite drinks, to knowing where we wanted to sit. We also want to mention Rubel, Reefaz, Ali, and the ladies in the spa run by Cynthia and send them a heartfelt thank you for making us feel welcome. We were even invited to the staff party (there’s only two each year), and it was so lovely to see the staff’s hard work being rewarded.
When we booked with Tropical Sky we went for the all-inclusive package, which came with a complimentary sunset cruise. This was definitely a big highlight of the trip – it was wonderful and well organised, and the dolphins came out in full force!
The spa was also incredible, the views are beautiful and the therapists are so welcoming – I certainly felt relaxed. During the day, you feel like you’re the only people on the island (which felt like paradise), but in the evening you can go for dinner and meet other people as you enjoy the evening entertainment. The little extra touches of the spa and evening entertainment really made our holiday perfect.
The main highlight of the holiday was being able to relax and take in the views of the gorgeous blue waters no matter where you were on the island – there’s plenty of comfortable seating everywhere, bars and cafes are always nearby, and the atmosphere is just so peaceful and calm.
We were worried about being safe on an island where you have no way of escaping (sounds crazy, I know!), but we felt safe and never worried about our belongings or money. The very long travelling time and boat ride there was a bit of a concern – at 26 weeks pregnant it certainly wasn’t the most comfortable, but I think it would have been fine otherwise. We didn’t really think about the bugs or mosquitos until we got there! But all we saw were a few geckos, a couple of weird bugs, and one tiny spider rather than the tarantulas I thought I’d see.
The Maldivian food always tasted the nicest out of everything on offer – so fresh and delicious – and the live stations never disappointed. I would recommend opting for the fresh, locally produced fruit as cream cakes aren’t so nice in a hot country – the papaya and watermelon taste amazing, they’re full of sweetness and the melons are lush.
We would 100% go back to this resort, and we would tell others to book without hesitation. Think of everything you expect from the Maldives and Meera Resort & Spa will tick all of those boxes, as well as meeting your every need. The little extras, like the entertainment, staff, and delightful spa, made the whole experience perfect. There’s even a buggy service so you can be whizzed off wherever you need to go. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my Maldives experience, and it was definitely down to the island and resort we went to.
We would like to thank Aziza & Kobir for sharing their story with us and hope to welcome you on another holiday soon..
