We recommend packing light, as you’ll need to carry your own luggage. Aim for a weight of 10-15kg (22-30lb) and avoid hard suitcases. Most travellers use small to medium backpacks or rolling bags. You’ll also need a day pack for essentials. For internal flights, the luggage allowance is 15kg (33lb) for checked bags and 7kg (15lb) for carry-on. Extra charges for excess weight are your responsibility.

Road
Road travel in India differs greatly from Western countries. Rules are often ignored, and drivers may speed, overtake dangerously, and rarely use mirrors or lights at night. Horns are frequently used, playing everything from Bollywood tunes to Britney Spears. While the government is improving roads, many remain poorly maintained, especially after the monsoon. Travel times are longer than expected, and short distances can take much longer. You'll have the comfort of an air-conditioned private vehicle but should be prepared for occasional rides in local transport for the experience.
